What is the Transparency Code?
The Local Government Transparency Code 2015 ("the code") came in to effect on 1 April 2015. It is issued by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in the exercise of powers under section 2 of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980, and replaces all previous codes issued in relation to authorities in England under those powers.
Waverley Community Council meets the definition of a local authority covered by the requirements of the code. The code requires local authorities in England to publish the following information to ensure local people can see and access data covering; how money is spent, use of assets, decision making and issues important to local people.
Waverley Community Council – Expenditure over £500
All councils are expected to publicise payments over £500 under the Code of Recommended Practice for Local Authorities on Data Transparency.
Publication of these lists' forms part of Waverley Community Council's commitment to be open and transparent with its residents. These will include all individual items the WCC purchases, payments made to contractors carrying out work on our behalf and other expenditure incurred in carrying out the WCC's business.
They will exclude payments made to individual staff, commercially sensitive information and any payments which may reveal personal details about an individual. Therefore, in some cases we will need to redact information to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act.
